Memories a funny thing and it takes a while for memories to surface sometimes, which is why this personal recollection of the Mayflower Clubs FREE Rally is being written now. I saw the notice in the club papers and mentioned it to Terry my son in law and being patriotic, we decided to attend.

It all happened back in mid June 1999, at the Leek camping weekend, when, after a few beers (my downfall) that Heather and Keith suggest I go on a little trip to India with them and a few others. As you do, you say “ yes, no problem, send me some info!”.

A classic late summer weekend - perfect camping - excellent pub.

Leaving early on Friday the overcast sky was darkening rapidly and I would have been expecting a heavy downpour had I not known of the eclipse. Others with clear sky reported an inability to leave until the observations of the return of the sun god had been completed.

After a damp run up to the weekend Friday afternoon was dry and early Saturday morning confirmed a change in the weather.

Reports on club camping weekends.

Stories of membest touring activities.

Reports on rallies attended and those small adventures resulting.

Those tales told in the pub after the tent is up, probably by the traditional roaring log fire.

Any others tales of travel thought to be of interest.
